A lot happened in the story this week. Jacob was running away from Esau and camped out for the night, using a rock for a pillow. He had a dream about a ladder that went to heaven and angels were going up and down this ladder. God promised him that He would give this land to Jacob, and always protect and be with Jacob. God promised He would bless Jacob. Jacob woke up and set the rock he was using up as a monument; if God did what He promised, then Jacob would trust Him.

Jacob kept travelling until he found his uncle Laban's house. He met his cousin Rachel and the two fell in love right away. Laban agreed to let Jacob marry her if he worked for seven years first. Seven years later, Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah, the older sister, instead of Rachel. Jacob had to work seven more years so that he could marry Rachel.

Because Jacob hated Leah, God started to give her children. She gave birth to Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah. Rachel was upset by this and told Jacob to marry her servant Bilhah, and have children with her. So Bilhah gave birth to Dan and then Naphtali. Leah got jealous and gave her servant, Zilpah, to Jacob as well and Zilpah gave birth to Gad and Asher. Then Leah had two more babies, Issachar and Zebulan. Finally, Rachel had a baby and named him Joseph.

This entire time, Jacob, Rachel and Leah weren't trusting God. They were scheming and working on how to make things happen for themselves. But even though no one was trusting God, God was faithful in keeping His promise to Jacob. When God makes a promise, nothing can make Him break that promise. We don't earn His promises and nothing we do will keep Him from fulfilling His promises.

 Have a wonderful week!
